Pregnancy and Parenting Education (Antenatal Classes)
The aim of the Pregnancy and Parenting Education course is to provide you with new knowledge and confidence during your pregnancy, childbirth, and early stages of parenting in a relaxed and supportive environment. This is also a good opportunity for you to meet people in your area who are also pregnant and to have an on-going contact for support and friendship after your baby is born.

Pregnancy Help – Otago
We provide free:

  • Information, support and advice about pregnancy and family matters.
  • Information about and referral to other agencies and services in your community.
  • Practical support such as bassinets, baby and children’s clothing, bassinet and cot bedding, nappies, maternity clothing and other items. Items can be couriered throughout Otago or can be collected by prior arrangement.

Donations of items are always welcome!

Jigsaw Central Otago
Jigsaw Central Lakes offers support and advocacy to families that are affected by family violence – whether it be physical, psychological or sexual. They can provide crisis management and emergency accommodation, support and referral to other social services, support with court and legal processes, and programmes for those experiencing, or who have experienced family violence issues. This is a confidential service which empowers families and individuals to make the changes needed to live safer, violence free lives.

Anglican Family Care
Based in Alexandra, Anglican Family Care provides free services to families in the Central Otago areas.
Home-based family support working alongside families in their own homes on issues such as:

  • Parenting skills and child management
  • Increasing parent knowledge of their children's needs.
  • Building on families' strengths and developing parent's self confidence.
  • Informing parents and encouraging their use of community resources and support networks.
Counselling for individuals, couples and families, focusing on issues of concern to you.
Referrals can be made by professionals, community workers or you can self-refer. Appointments are necessary for all services.

Catholic Social Services
Dona Foley, Social Worker and Geoff Heward, Counsellor provide support to individuals and families from their base at Alexandra Community House in Alexandra. Their work is mostly in the areas of Alexandra, Clyde, Cromwell, Roxburgh and Ranfurly.
Families are requesting help with issues such as housing, inadequate income, relationships, abuse and parenting issues. They also offer a counselling clinic fortnightly in Roxburgh.

No referral is necessary. Just phone and leave a message.

Parenting Groups/Support

Alexandra Parents Centre
Activities, parent education and support for families in Central Otago. We are a voluntary organisation set up by parents for parents. Our committee of volunteers organises fun learning and social activities for babies, pre-school children and their parents.

Alexandra Toy Library
Alexandra Toy Library is a volunteer run community library conveniently situated beside the Molyneux Aquatic Centre, Boundary Road.
The library provides toys for children from birth to 10 years of age. Approx. 800 toys in the library ranging from large items, for example, ride in cars and trucks, balance bikes and roller coasters to smaller games and toys, educational toys and puzzles.
The aim of the library is to make good quality toys accessible to all families in our community. Membership options from $15.
